i used to run my own shop before i went traveling for a couple of years. it was a lot of work! And, really, it was kind of lonely over there.

Not that etsy ISN'T a lot of work - thankfully, i've cut out the need to code everything myself now, which leaves me a lot more time to make things and focus on promotional efforts. Etsy is also very motivating and inspiring - it's inspiring knowing that people like what you make with your own hands. It's motivating in a million ways - from buyers who leave you wonderful feedback about your work, inspiration from other designers, trading tips and techniques in the forums, so many members willing to offer helpful advice, and so much free, merit-based advertising, it's almost hard to believe what you get in return for the nominal listing and transaction fees.

Etsy has definitely served to re-inspire me and to constantly try and come up with new, and better ideas.

i *heart* etsy and am SO GLAD to be here! I know I am one in a legion of people who will say that, which brings me to another point - that's really the BIGGEST and most beautiful thing about etsy - IT'S THE PEOPLE!

And might I add, Etsy is RIDICULOUSLY fun to shop in, too - my house is starting to fill up with all sorts of wonderful handmade goods. In what's become such an impersonal world in so many ways, I love getting personal packages in the mail. I love knowing that these items came from someone who can't help themselves - they HAVE to make stuff, and they LOVE doing it. I believe that love and "have to" infuses things with great juju, and you can never have enough of that. Etsy is FULL of it.
